Gear For Deer
Partnering to Support Youth Hunters: Rostraver Sportsmen’s Association & Gear for Deer Inc.
At Rostraver Sportsmen’s Association, we are committed to passing down Pennsylvania’s rich hunting heritage and conservation ethics to the next generation. That is why we are excited to announce our partnership with Gear for Deer Inc., a Greensburg-based non-profit charitable organization dedicated to equipping and supporting new, junior hunters across Westmoreland County and beyond.
What is Gear for Deer?
Gear for Deer Inc. was founded with a clear mission: to support youth who take their first step into the outdoors by completing Pennsylvania’s Hunter Trapper Education (HTE) program.
Getting started in hunting can be expensive. To help make sure every young hunter has a safe, comfortable, and memorable first season, Gear for Deer raises funds to outfit new junior hunters with essential, high-quality hunting apparel and safety gear.
How the Program Works & Eligibility Requirements
Young hunters who take their training through a participating sportsmen’s club—like Rostraver Sportsmen’s Association—are eligible for this program!
• Age Qualification: Youth hunters ages 11 to 16.
• Education Requirement: Must successfully complete the Hunter Trapper Education (HTE) Course at a participating club. (Note: Students do NOT need to be a member of the club to qualify!)
• Licensure: Must purchase a Pennsylvania hunting license in the subsequent licensure year.
• Next Steps: Following successful completion, an email will be sent to the parent/guardian asking for clothing sizes.
The Gear Provided
To help provide a safe and comfortable hunt, Gear for Deer supplies:
• Boots and socks
• Hunting pants and hunting shirt
• Jacket / outerwear
• Gloves
• Hunter orange hat and hunter orange vest
