Our Mission is your Safety!...
Please read and follow the rules of our ranges. If you have any questions or concerns, immediately contact the Range Safety Officer. These rules will keep the ranges safe for you and others, as well as keeping them in a usable condition for everyone to enjoy!
Range Documentation/Forms
The Range Safety Officer kindly asks that you read and understand all of the rules. Please refer to the following forms for additional guidelines, as well as what to do when someone does not follow the rules and an incident occurs.
Rifle Range Quick Guidelines
- Cold Range Verification: Before anyone moves downrange to check or change targets, all rifles must be unloaded, magazines removed, and actions locked open (or chamber flags inserted).
- Sign-In Mandatory: All shooters must sign the logbook prior to setting up equipment.
- Respect Range Status: Obey all posted signage. If a sign says CLOSED, the range is strictly off-limits.
- Protect the Infrastructure: Do NOT shoot at wooden target hanger posts, cross-beams, or frames. Aim only at approved targets.
- Steel Target Etiquette: Metal targets are provided for your enjoyment. To prevent damage or dangerous ricochets, please adhere to the following:
- NO Armor Piercing (AP), steel-core (green tip), or tracer ammunition.
- Maintain Distance: Do not engage steel targets closer than the minimum posted distance (typically 100 yards for high-powered rifles).
- Ceasefire Communication: Always announce "Ceasefire!" and receive confirmation from all other shooters on the line before stepping past the firing bench.
Pistol Range Quick Guidelines
- SINGLE USE RULE: This range is shared with Archery. Pistol and Archery cannot be used at the same time. If an archer is already using the range, you must wait until they are finished before setting up firearms.
- Cold Range Protocol: Before anyone walks downrange for any reason, all firearms must be unloaded, magazines removed, and actions locked open.
- Mandatory Sign-In: Every shooter must sign the logbook prior to unpacking equipment.
- Observe Range Status: Always check posted signs. If the range is marked CLOSED, do not enter.
- Trap Event Closure: The pistol range is strictly CLOSED during trap shooting events. Use the rifle range as your alternative.
- Protect the Infrastructure: Do NOT shoot at wooden posts, target frames, or archery-specific backstops/bales. Aim only at approved paper targets.
- Communication: Coordinate with archery shooters. Ensure the entire line is "Cold" before crossing the firing line.
Trap Range Quick Guidelines
- Cold Range Protocol: Always check your shotgun to ensure it is completely unloaded with the action open before anyone walks downrange or moves onto the field.
- Observe Range Status: Follow all posted signage. If a sign says CLOSED, it is strictly off-limits.
- Patterning Board Rules: * The pattern board is open for use, but Maximum shot size is #7.5 or #8.
- Lead Shot Only: Steel shot or non-toxic hunting loads are prohibited on the pattern board.
- High-Power/Magnum Loads: If you wish to pattern 3” or 3.5” magnum shells, 00 Buck/Defense loads, or High-Brass hunting loads (#2, #4, Turkey, or Waterfowl), you must use the Rifle Range with paper targets. Do not use these on the Trap pattern board.
- Hand Throwers: For safety and coordination, NO hand-held or portable throwers are allowed on the range without prior permission from the Trap Chairman.
- New Equipment: Contact the Trap Chairman if you would like to schedule a time to test out or function-check a new shotgun.
- Sign-In: Remember to sign the logbook before beginning your session.
Archery Range Quick Guidelines
- SINGLE USE RULE: This range is shared with Archery. Pistol and Archery cannot be used at the same time. If an archer is already using the range, you must wait until they are finished before setting up firearms.
- Coordinated Safety: Never cross the firing line to retrieve arrows until you have confirmed the range is COLD and all equipment is benched.
- No "Sky Drawing": Keep your bow pointed toward the target at all times while drawing. Drawing with the arrowhead pointed upward is strictly prohibited.
- Target Care: Use field points only. Broadheads are prohibited on club-provided bales as they cause immediate and permanent damage.
- Directional Fire: Only shoot at designated archery bales. Do not shoot at pistol steel or paper frames, as this will shatter your arrows.
- Trap Event Closure: The archery range follows the same schedule as the pistol range; it is CLOSED during all trap shooting events.
